Why Consistency In God's Word Will Transform Your Life

When I first started reading my Bible, I honestly didn’t understand what I was reading.

I would open the pages of Scripture and read the words, but I didn’t truly understand what God was saying. Sometimes I would finish a chapter and think, “What did I just read?”

But I kept showing up.

One thing I’ve learned in my walk with Christ is that consistency is key.

Think about going to the gym. When you first start working out, you don’t see results overnight. You don’t lose the weight after one workout, and you don’t build strength after one week. But when you continue showing up day after day, month after month, you begin to see the transformation.

You become stronger.

You become healthier.

You become the person you were working toward becoming.

The same is true with God’s Word.

When you first begin reading the Bible, it may feel confusing. You may not understand everything you read, and that’s okay. Don’t let that discourage you.

Keep showing up.

Keep seeking God.

The first time I read through Scripture, I didn’t fully understand what God was saying. The second time, I approached it differently. Before I opened my Bible, I would simply pray:

“God, what are You saying to me today?”

Then I would slowly read the passage. Not rushing. Not trying to check a box. Just taking my time and paying attention to what stood out.

After reading, I would journal.

I would write down the verse that caught my attention and ask myself:

  • What stood out to me?

  • What could God be saying through this passage?

  • How can I apply this to my life today?

Day after day, I continued this process.

And slowly, something began to change.

God’s voice became clearer.

His wisdom became more familiar.

The things I once struggled to understand started making sense.

The Bible was no longer just words on a page. It became guidance, wisdom, comfort, correction, and truth.

As I continued spending time in God’s Word, my thoughts began to change. My decisions began to change. My relationships began to change. My heart began to change.

I became more rooted in Christ.

Just like a tree planted by water develops deep roots over time, we become planted and rooted in God’s wisdom when we consistently spend time in His Word.

Transformation doesn’t happen overnight.

It happens through daily surrender.

Daily obedience.

Daily time with God.

If you’re beginning your Bible reading journey today, don’t quit because you don’t understand everything right away.

The goal isn’t to understand everything immediately.

The goal is to know God more each day.

Keep praying.

Keep journaling.

Keep asking God what He wants to teach you.

One day you’ll look back and realize that the very Word you once struggled to understand has completely transformed your life.

“Blessed is the one whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water.” Psalm 1:2-3

Stay rooted.

Stay consistent.

Stay in God’s Word.

He is working, even when you cannot yet see it.

Lord, help me remain rooted in Your Word. Give me the discipline to seek You daily and the wisdom to understand what You are teaching me. Help me trust that even when I don’t see growth, You are working in my heart.

Amen.
